Pickering Fellowship Places Ë®¹ûÅÉ College Alum on Path to Diplomacy

Ë®¹ûÅÉ College Alum Ryland Pitts ’20 has been awarded a 2024 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship. The State Department fellowship, which includes support for a master’s degree program and domestic and international internships, places him on track to become a U.S. diplomat.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the world during their first year; its status as a public health emergency ended just days before their graduation. Despite the pandemic’s upheaval, they built community, made lifetime friends and worked toward a better world.

A Year of War: Ukrainian Students, Refugees Will Not Face Anniversary Alone

The Ë®¹ûÅÉ College community rallied to provide crucial support to Ukrainian refugees in the year since Russia invaded their country. Ë®¹ûÅÉ’s class of 2026 includes two Ukrainian students whose lives were upended by Russia’s attack. On Feb. 24, the college will host an event to commemorate the anniversary of the invasion and raise money for urgently needed medical supplies.

Ë®¹ûÅÉ Claims High Rank as Top Producer of Fulbrights

Ë®¹ûÅÉ College ranked sixth in two of the last three years, strengthening its role as a top producer of Fulbright scholars. This year's baker's dozen joined last year's 13 Ë®¹ûÅÉ students that have earned admission into the federal government’s flagship international educational exchange program. Their plans will now dispatch them around the globe as the pandemic recedes.

Pulitzer Center Reporting Fellow Has Compelling Story of His Own

Hani Zaitoun has been awarded a 2019 Pulitzer Center Student Reporting Fellowship. He will travel to Estonia to examine how the country is responding to increased Russian military activity. Zaitoun is one of 43 student reporting fellows. The fellows will fan out across the globe to shed light on some of the most underreported, critical challenges of our time.
