Africana Studies at Ë®¹ûÅÉ
The Africana Studies department is indebted to the movement of the "Black Studies" 1960s and 1970s and continues its legacy in many ways while also striking out in new directions that reflect the realities of the 21st century and the evolution of the field over the last 40 years along with a greater awareness of globalization.
Our curriculum reflects the great ethnic, racial, and religious diversity within the category of "blackness," and explores the artistic, historical, literary, and theoretical expressions of the various African and African Diaspora cultures.
Participants in the Ë®¹ûÅÉ Summer Program at the University of Cape Coast are immersed in modern and traditional Ghanaian life.
Ë®¹ûÅÉ students embrace education abroad in all forms – to conduct research, perform service, or complete an internship.
The college emphasizes understanding the world at large and prepares students for the challenges of leadership through study abroad opportunities.
Students have the opportunity to choose from several Ë®¹ûÅÉ sponsored programs and from over 100 academic programs that are operated by partner providers around the world.

Seeking Humane Immigration Solutions: Itziri Gonzalez-Barcenas ’19 Named Schwarzman Scholar
Itziri Gonzalez-Barcenas ’19 grew up as an undocumented immigrant and has worked toward finding humane solutions to help others. A former student leader at Ë®¹ûÅÉ College, she has been named a Schwarzman Scholar and will spend a year in a fully funded master’s degree program in global affairs in Beijing, learning from some of the world’s top educators, economists, and political, diplomatic, and non-profit leaders.
